LIZ LINDSTROM

Biography

A Chattanooga native, Liz was born to be an artist. She traded in a classroom education to be schooled by her father, nationally acclaimed portrait artist Bart Lindstrom, who began teaching her at an early age. Liz says “As a child, I loved to go into my father’s studio for art lessons. He would let me sit and watch while he worked on a painting or he would give me projects to work on. It’s amazing how much I was able to learn just by being around him.”

In high school, Liz began to explore her options as a graduate. “Every school I looked at and every program I researched did not offer me anything close to what my father could give me. I stayed in Chattanooga to apprentice under my dad, and God has used it to my benefit more than I could have imagined.” After three semesters of apprenticeship under her father, four months in England, and abroad, Liz has found her niche in figurative art. “During my time in Europe, I photographed more beautiful towns, rivers, and coastlines than could be appreciated. However, when I got back in the studio, the people I met along the way became the only subject that I was interested in pursuing. That’s when I realized in which direction I needed to take my art.”

The inspiration for Liz’s work comes from her passion for ballet, her awe of the human figure, and her great admiration of Degas. Whether it’s in portraiture or in her oeuvres of ballet, her goal is to capture a moment in time that calls out to be recorded. Liz says, “The amazing thing about being an artist is that I am able to show others how I see the world, allowing them to see through my eyes. I want the viewer to be amazed at the beauty of ballet and those with whom we are surrounded.

In autumn of 2002, Ms. Lindstrom was awarded a scholarship by Portrait Brokers of America to attend The Scottsdale Artist’s School in Arizona. With the knowledge gained from her father’s tutelage and her time in Scottsdale, she plans to pursue an international art career based out of Chattanooga and Scottsdale, Arizona. Her work can be found in galleries and homes from California to Cambridge, England; she continues to broaden her horizons with each work sold.
