In an age when we are saturated with photographic images, the magic of an expertly executed original oil painting stands out as unique, timeless, and something to be treasured for generations.

Dale Crawford began to professionally paint portraits and sell his privately while studying at the Ringling School of Art and Design. Mr. Crawford calls portrait painting challenging and rewarding, with his two main goals being (1) to meticulously capture an accurate likeness, and (2) to create a beautiful and timeless painting.

Mr. Crawford begins a portrait by meeting with the client for a photography session in which he will take approximately 150 images of each subject.  He will then review all images and chose those that would make the most beautiful painting.  The client will receive digital images of those Mr. Crawford chose, as the final decision is their’s.  Mr. Crawford feels the client can best determine which image best captures the likeness and personality of the subject.

Once the final image has been agreed upon and approved, Mr. Crawford returns to his studio to begin painting the portrait.  Approximately three months is required to complete each portrait.  Mr. Crawford’s technique includes taking appropriate drying time between paint layers and making continual adjustments to ensure the most accurate likeness.

The portrait is delivered unframed to Gold Leaf Designs & Gallery, where the client meets with Alan or Bonny Shuptrine, or other gallery representatives, to discuss proper framing for their portraiture.
